May Is Mahi Month in Northeast Florida

May is one of the best months of the year for offshore fishing in Northeast Florida. When the winds settle down and boats can safely reach the Gulf Stream, the Mahi bite around Amelia Island turns on in a big way.

This year was no exception.

Once sea conditions improved, offshore fishing charters out of Amelia Island began loading up on Mahi, along with Tuna and Wahoo. There were even a few reports of Marlin showing up in the blue water.

Offshore Fishing Action with Pipe Dream Charters

Pipe Dream III made several offshore runs and found steady action bottom fishing for:
  • Vermilion Snapper
  • Grouper
  • Cobia
  • Sea Bass
  • Triggerfish
  • Amberjack
As water temperatures continued to warm and the pogies arrived, the King Mackerel bite began building as well.
Last July, Pipe Dream III weighed in a “King Daddy” at 56.07 pounds, and we expect more big fish again this season.
